As in the opening game of the Tuesday twinbill, Knoxville got soild pitching and plenty of hits in the nightcap. Lance Daugherty and Danny Lee combined to pitch a four-hitter, and the Panthers unleashed a 10-hit attack that resulted in an easy 9-1 win over Pella. The second game win gave the Panthers a season-series sweep over the Little Dutch. The victory put Knoxville's season record at 15-12, marking the first time the Panthers have been three games over .500 this season. KHS is now 10-6 in conference play and began the night in fourth place in the LHC.
Eric Jones highlighted a four-run second inning, driving in two Panther runs with a triple past the diving Pella right-fielder. The home team continued tacking on runs throughout the game, scoring at least one run in every inning thereafter. Perhaps the finest moment came in the bottom of the sixth. Kellen Glover was game one's winning pitcher but seldom gets varsity at-bats. He came up as a pinch-hitter and promptly sent a Pella pitch over the right-field wall for his first-ever varsity home run.
Knoxville continues a very busy week on Wednesday when the Panthers host Pella Christian in JV/Varsity action. The contest with the Eagles will be Knoxville's fifth game in the past three days.
