Missed scoring opportunities hurt the Panthers Wednesday evening, and the result was a 5-1 setback at the hands of the Newton Cardinals in a Little Hawkeye conference contest. Knoxville drew seven walks off of Cardinal pitching, but managed only three hits for the game and left 11 runners on the base paths.

The Panthers dented the scoreboard early in the game when Jesse Swanson drove an RBI double into the gap in the first inning, scoring Tyler Worrall. But that would be Knoxville's only run, and Newton scored twice in the bottom of the first to take the lead for good.

Josh Russell took the loss on the mound despite giving up only four hits and walking three over six innings of work. KHS committed four errors, including three in the fifth inning.

Swanson, Mike Jacks and Jared McRoberts each had one hit apiece for Knoxville, who fell to 5-4 in the LHC and 6-11 overall. Knoxville hosts Des Moines Christian in a JV/Varsity non-conference contest Friday evening.
